Beginning in 2008, the Institute will take place each June in Park City, Utah. Home to the Sundance Film Festival and one of the primary sites for the 2002 Winter Olympics, Park City offers superb facilities, an idyllic setting, and 45 minute drive time from a major international airport (Salt Lake City). The program will be underwritten in part by a major grant from the Park City Jazz Foundation.
One of IAJE’s most important outreach programs has been the Teacher Training Institute. Designed to provide skills to teachers with little or no training in jazz pedagogy, this program has made a tremendous difference in helping teachers integrate jazz into their curriculum in hundreds of schools districts. The program will be expanded in the new Park City setting with the addition of an advanced course for those looking to increase their jazz education skills to a higher level. If we are going to have a pervasive impact on the future of this music we have to begin in the classroom!
A series of 3-day intensive workshops geared to jazz educators, musicians, industry, students, and enthusiasts are also planned in addition to an 11-day collegiate academy and specialized programs for composers, technical personnel, and presenters.
With your support, we can build a program that not only serves our members, but provides a unique home where members of the global jazz community can come together in a natural setting for renewal, training, and collaboration. The IAJE Summer Institute in Park City will provide this setting, and with funding from the Campaign for Jazz, we will be able to support expenses for many of those attending.
Your Contribution will help IAJE:
Create an IAJE Institute that provides professional development and training for IAJE members and the global jazz community.
Provide scholarships for students and teachers to attend the IAJE Institute and Collegiate Academy.
Create an annual Leadership Academy for IAJE officers and leaders that will strengthen the grass roots membership structure of our association.
